Distance Reiki is the same gentle practice we offer in our North Massapequa office, sent to you without anyone needing to be in the room. Our founder, Dawn Ristau, works with intention on your behalf while you rest wherever you are in Nassau County, NY. You may also know it as remote Reiki, Reiki from a distance or long distance Reiki healing.
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation. It appeals to people who are stretched thin, and in a county of nearly 1.4 million people, many of them commuting, parenting or caring for a parent, getting to the appointment is often the hardest part.
Without the Southern State or Sunrise Highway, a Reiki session fits into the Nassau County week you already have.
New York doesn’t license Reiki. The state’s massage therapy board has said you don’t need a massage license to practice it, so the things you can actually weigh are training, experience and what past clients say. That’s worth knowing before you book with a practitioner you’ve never met.
Dawn Ristau is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Certified Reiki Master with over a decade of experience, working out of North Massapequa. Clients leave five-star reviews and describe her as kind, intuitive and clear. When you book distance Reiki with us, you’re booking with a real person in your own county, and our office is here if you ever want to visit in person.
Contact us and tell us a little about what you’re dealing with, and we’ll find a time that works.
We walk you through how your session will run, what to do beforehand, and answer your questions before anything starts.
You settle in wherever you are and let the session happen. Afterward, you’re free to carry on with your day.
Before your session, we explain what will happen and what you’ll need to do, and you give your consent. Belief isn’t required, only openness. During the session you rest. Some people feel warmth, calm or tingling, and others feel very little. Both are normal.
On the research, we’ll be straight with you. Studies suggest Reiki may help with stress and anxiety, and a few small, early studies have looked at distance sessions, but the evidence overall is mixed. Reiki is complementary. It isn’t a replacement for medical care, and we would never ask you to change your treatment.

The honest answer is that the research is promising but not settled. A 2022 meta-analysis in Frontiers in Psychology found Reiki beat placebo for some mental health symptoms, with the strongest evidence in people who already had clinical levels of anxiety, stress or depression. A Cochrane review, on the other hand, found insufficient evidence for anxiety and depression. Studies of distance Reiki specifically are small and early. What we can tell you is that many clients describe feeling calm, warm and settled after Reiki, and a session asks very little of you. If it helps you unwind, that's worth something.
No. You don't need to believe in anything, but you do need to be open to it and agree to receive it. Plenty of people who contact us are skeptical, and that's a perfectly reasonable place to start. We explain what we do and what we don't claim, and you can ask whatever you like beforehand. Reiki is a skill that's learned, not a special gift, so there's nothing you need to get right as the person receiving. You simply rest and see what you notice, if anything.
That's the most common worry, and it's a fair one. Experiences vary a lot. Some people notice warmth, tingling, deep calm or sleepiness, and others feel very little in the moment and notice a shift later in the day, or not at all. Feeling little doesn't mean you did anything wrong. It helps to set aside a quiet stretch of time, silence your phone and get comfortable, then tell us afterward what you noticed. We'll talk it through with you and help you decide whether another session makes sense.
Because nobody has to travel, it doesn't matter where in Nassau County, NY you live. Whether you're in Massapequa Park, Bethpage, Farmingdale, Seaford or Wantagh, or farther north in Garden City, Great Neck or Port Washington, you can book the same session. Nassau County is a dense, busy area with a median age of 41.9, and a lot of people here are juggling work, kids and aging parents. Skipping the Southern State or Sunrise Highway for an appointment can be the difference between going and putting it off again. Reach out and we'll confirm details for your town.
Reiki is gentle and non-invasive, and it's meant to complement medical care, not replace it. Keep seeing your doctor and keep taking any medication you've been prescribed. We'd never suggest otherwise. It's also worth knowing that New York doesn't license Reiki, so it's smart to ask any practitioner about their training. Dawn's acupuncture license is a state credential, and Reiki itself has no state license, so we point you to her Reiki Master certification and more than a decade of experience. Ask us anything before you book.
We'd rather give you accurate answers than a number on a web page that may not fit your situation. Contact us and we'll tell you the cost and session length, and explain exactly how your session will run and what you'll need on your end. If you have questions about whether distance Reiki makes sense for you, whether that's stress, recovery, caring for someone, or simple curiosity, ask those too. There's no pressure to book, and we're glad to help you decide.
