Cupping Therapy in Massapequa

Cupping for the Knots Stretching Won't Reach

Cupping uses suction cups on your skin to lift and pull the tissue underneath, instead of pressing down into it the way deep massage does. Athletes use it on the spots that stay tight no matter how much they stretch or foam roll: a knot beside the shoulder blade, tight calves, hips, low back.

It suits high school and college athletes, rec-league players, runners, lifters, and weekend golfers and tennis players across Nassau County. It’s a recovery tool, not a cure, and we’ll tell you plainly where it helps and where it doesn’t.

We now accept no fault insurance & most major insurances, please text for assistance.

Loosen Up Between the Commute and Practice

Cupping may ease soreness and stubborn tightness so you can get back to practice, the gym, or a run feeling less stuck.

Cupping After Training, Nassau County

Nassau County Traffic Tightens You Before You Train

If you train on the South Shore, you know the sequence. You sit through the Long Island Expressway, which locals call the World’s Longest Parking Lot, or crawl along Sunrise Highway or the Southern State Parkway, and then you’re expected to walk into practice, the gym or a run and perform.

Hip flexors, low back and neck stay stiff from sitting, and training piles soreness on top. Stretching only goes so far.

Cupping after training gives that stubborn tightness direct attention without adding another hard workout. The benefits research supports best are the ones you can feel, like soreness and sleep, and that’s how we talk about it.

Cupping for Sports Injury

Honest Cupping for Nassau County Athletes

Cupping isn’t a cure, and we won’t pitch it as one. A 2018 review of studies in amateur and professional athletes found possible benefits for pain and range of motion, but the research was small and weak. A Mayo Clinic physician says the evidence neither proves nor disproves it. Risk is low when a trained practitioner screens you first.

When we talk about cupping for sports injury, we mean nagging overuse and tightness, not a fresh tear, fracture or concussion. Those need a physician first. Once you’re cleared, cupping may fit alongside your physical therapy or training plan, and we’ll tell you if it’s not the right call. You’ll leave knowing what we did, what marks to expect, and when to train again.

Honestly, the research is mixed, and we'd rather say so than oversell it. A Mayo Clinic physician has said there's no evidence that shows cupping works or doesn't, and placebo effects are possible. A 2018 review in amateur and professional athletes found possible benefits for pain and range of motion, but called the evidence small. The stronger signals point to things you feel, like soreness, tightness and sleep. If you think it helps and you're a good candidate, it's a low-risk thing to try. Just don't expect a performance boost you can measure.

It can. Cupping leaves circular marks where the suction drew blood toward the surface. They aren't the same as a bruise from a hit, and most fade within a few days, though some people find they last up to about a week. If you have a game, a meet, or a job where visible marks matter, tell us when you book. We'll talk through where the cups go and how to time your visit so the marks aren't a problem for you.

After training is the easier call. A session following a heavy block of workouts or a hard week gives you time to see how you feel before you compete. Before a game is trickier. A Mayo Clinic physician's advice is to try nothing brand new on competition day, and we think that's right. Whether you're in a fall, winter or spring season on Long Island, book your first session on a lighter day, not the day before a big game. Text us your schedule and we'll help you find a good window.

For most healthy adults it's low risk. A literature review of 135 trials reported no serious adverse effects, though burns and skin reactions have been reported rarely. You should skip it, or check with your doctor first, if you take blood thinners, have a bleeding disorder or clotting risk, or have sunburn, wounds or an active skin infection. Some heart, kidney and liver conditions call for caution too. If you're a parent of a student-athlete, text us before booking so we can talk it through. Suspected tears, fractures and concussions need a physician first.

We're in network with NYSHIP and MagnaCare, which matters to a lot of Nassau County households. Whether your plan covers cupping specifically is a different question, and we won't promise coverage we can't confirm. Use the insurance-check link on our contact page, or text us with your plan and we'll tell you what we know. Cupping isn't covered everywhere, so it's worth asking before your visit. When you text, we'll also give you our pricing so you know what to expect.

Neither is better, they just feel different. Massage and foam rolling press down into the muscle, while cupping uses suction to lift and pull the tissue up. Some athletes find that reaches spots pressure doesn't, and plenty use both. If your shoulders and hips lock up after a long drive on the Southern State Parkway or the Long Island Expressway and then a workout, it's worth trying something different. We also offer massage and reflexology, so Dawn can help you work out what fits.
